The Long View

A Century on the Land

SMSC traces back to a field-trial club in the mid-1920s. The 47 acres were acquired in the early 1940s, the club was renamed Southern Minnesota Sportsman's Club in 1952, and the property has grown with the community ever since.

Mid-1920s

A Field-Trial Club

The original organization formed around dog trials and the sporting life — a tradition that predates the club's current name by three decades.

1940s

47 Wooded Acres

The original 47-acre parcel of wooded land was acquired — the foundation of everything that followed.

1952

SMSC Is Named

Renamed Southern Minnesota Sportsman's Club. The main clubhouse, a trap house, a centerfire rifle range, and a 24-stand pistol range were all built the same year.

1977

Trap Clubhouse

A dedicated trap clubhouse was added. The pistol range was later expanded to 50 stands.

1990s

64.3 Acres Today

An adjacent 17.3 acres were purchased as a buffer against residential development — bringing the club to its current 64.3 acres.
